Stratford CAN: Candidate Statement

Stratford CAN: Candidate Statement Stratford CAN is confirming today that, reluctantly, we will not be running a candidate in the upcoming General Election. This is not a decision we have reached lightly. Stratford CAN was set up to remove our previous neglectful, absentee MP, Nadhim Zahawi. We were delighted when he stood down as the

About Stratford CAN

Stratford-upon-Avon constituency has always voted Conservative.

But the Conservative Party HQ takes this constituency for granted. It takes the voters of Stratford, and Alcester, Shipston, Henley, Studley, and all the villages in between for granted. It takes you and your vote for granted.

This was evident than in the re-nomination of disgraced former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi. It is even further in evidence with the imposition of chicken-run former Greater Manchester MP Chris Clarkson on us.

Like Nadhim and John Maples before him, Clarkson has no local links and his execrable record in Heywood and Middleton shows that, like them, we can expect him to do nothing for this constituency and its residents.

Stratford-upon-Avon deserves better. We deserve better.

If you want a strong local MP, Stratford CAN is the answer.

What Voters Are Saying To Us

We need a local MP with honesty and integrity who is willing to put local people and the local area first. I certainly wouldn’t vote for [Zahawi].

Jean Ashfield

From the Stratford Herald

Nadhim Zahawi is toxic on the doorstep.

Conservative Party insider

From the Stratford Herald

With the re-selection of Nadhim Zahawi, the Conservatives have lost my vote for the first time in my life.

Constance Cope

From the Stratford Herald

[Zahawi] clings on like a bad stain hoping voters don’t know the facts or that they have very short memories or both. Stratford deserves better.

Peter Luckhurst

From the Stratford Herald

We need a local representative with genuine interest in the local area.

A Allen

From the Stratford Herald

One thing I will never do in future is vote Conservative at any level while [Zahawi] remains their chosen Parliamentary candidate.

Mike Walker

From the Stratford Herald

For many years now local citizens have suffered an absentee MP with delusions of grandeur whose behaviour has brought shame on this constituency.

R Culley

From the Stratford Herald

Nadhim Zahawi would appear tol hold three visions in politics: self-interest, self-interest, self-interest. Alas, Stratford-on-Avon, we deserve better.

Alan Bradbury

From the Stratford Herald

It would have been far better for all concerned if [Zahawi] had said he wasn’t standing for re-selection.

Tony Jefferson

Former Conservative Leader, Stratford District Council

We need a local MP with honesty and integrity who is willing to put local people and the local area first. I certainly wouldn’t vote for [Zahawi].
